2019 is coming to an end (whaat how already?!) so it’s time to look back at the last 365 days and do some reflection on the important things, highlights, and lessons. So grab your coffee (or coconut) and walk down the memory lane with moi.

PS! I did the same recap thing in 2018. Take a look.

I can give you a hint – all in all, 2019 was amazing and probably the best year of my life (so far)

My 2019 in travels

  • 7 months spent abroad. This year was similar to the last year. I spent January and the summer months home in Estonia and other months in Asia.
  • 7 countries visited. Finland, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Denmark, Russia, Cambodia, Indonesia.
  • 4 new countries visited. Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Russia, Cambodia.
  • 12 flights flown all together. Including connection flights.
  • 1483€ spent on plane tickets. #sorrynotsorry

3 travel highlights: Discovering Sri Lanka for a month (and seeing wild elephants for the first time)  / Doing a motorcycle trip in Northern Vietnam for 2 weeks (the most scenic nature I’ve ever seen) / Ending the year in Bali – my home away from home.

What travelling taught me? To handle uncomfortable situations better. Travelling looks perfect on photos but the actual travel days are quite hard. You’ll have to deal with being tired, hangry, sweaty, and dehydrated. And living in Asia for longer has its ups and downs (the biggest downsides are probably the electricity cuts). But I’m learning not to get upset over the situations I cannot control. Breath in, breathe out.

What I’m most grateful for? Discovering new (and old) places with the love of my life. Spending most of the days of the year in the sunshine and warm weathers.

Where do I want to travel in 2020? I’d love to discover more of Indonesia, then I have a trip planned with my family to Georgia, me and Markus want to do a road trip in the nordic countries in the summer and probably coming back to Asia in autumn.

My 2019 in work life

  • Started taking my social media marketing business more seriously.
  • Connected and started working with Jenny – another #girlboss, who’s insight and help as been SOOO valuable for me.
  • Got to work with 8 amazing clients.
  • Made many mistakes Learned many lessons.
  • Took an intern.
  • Did an Instagram strategy workshop.
  • Started outsourcing a little (more of this coming in 2020)
  • Met my yearly goal revenue!

3 work highlights: Worked with clients, who I really respect and value / Didn’t have to look for work, all work found me (mostly by word of mouth) / Did my biggest month in revenue in November.

Biggest lesson learned? Oh, I totally need to do a whole blog post about my year as an entrepreneur, as I feel like there are so many wins and learning points. But the biggest lesson – rest days are AS important as productive days. I feel like I’ve pushed myself pretty hard at the end of the year and hustle is okay for a while, but it’s not a sustainable way of working (and living).

What I’m most grateful for? Same as last year – being able to work remotely from the other side of the world. I remember so clearly how I dreamed of this kind of lifestyle and now it’s my reality. Take a look at my blog post about the 10 moments in my life that got me closer to my dream life.

What do I want to accomplish in 2020? Oh, there are so-many-things. I want to bring on more cool clients, work on a better structure for myself, outsource more tasks and plan some time for rest.

My 2019 in personal life

To be honest with you, I feel like 2019 was a great year in terms of travel AND work. I’m really happy with all the places we got to see (and live at) and the work I did. BUT…everything cannot be perfect, so I feel like the personal stuff and my self-development are something I need to put as a priority in 2020.

So, to be honest with you here’s a list of things I wanted to do, but didn’t:

  • Read 15 books
  • Walk 10K steps every day
  • Work out regularly (lol at this, but in 2020 we can do it)
  • Find the work-life balance

But here are the things that did happen:

  • Woke up early (most of the year)
  • Took a lot of photos
  • Learned to use Lightroom (as much as I need)
  • Blogged more than last year (thank you all for the sweet feedback ♥)

3 personal highlights: Getting engaged in Bali / fostering puppies (and totally learning that I’m not ready to have one…yet) / started goal-setting and vision planning for the future.

The last one to me is super important because I believe that if you don’t know where you want to end up, it’s going to be hella difficult (or even impossible) to get there.

Biggest lesson learned? To embrace the different seasons and be present in them (damn you, FOMO). When I’m home in the summers I prioritize my friends and family. Summer is my “social-season”. And when I’m away in Asia, I prioritize work and discovering around, but mostly work, so this is my “productive-season”. And that’s totally fine.

Also, that every YES is a NO to something else. This is the main idea in the book Essentialism, which I love. The main idea is to protect your YES-es to things, people and projects that really matter and have a positive impact on you.

What I’m most grateful for? The feeling of freedom of working and living from wherever in the world I want (hello from Bali) and being able to discover the world with the love of my life.

What do I want to accomplish in 2020? Work-life balance, for sure! Also, at the moment I kinda haven’t prioritized working out and working on myself. Changing that in 2020!

Thanks for reading through this! You can use the same questions and think about your last year (if you haven’t already). I also put down some dreams for 2020, but these I’m going to keep as a secret. ♥
