It was funny, how we booked our first night at Airbnb near this beach totally randomly. Little did we know that we’d fall so deeply in love with the area that we decided to stay for more than 3 weeks here.

The area I’m talking about is SK Town. It’s small – consisting of one street, 2 restaurants and a few hotels. But the beach at the end of the road is BREATHTAKING. When we first saw it we were totally blown away by it, thinking “are all the Sri Lankan beaches this amazing?!” (PS! no they are not).

See the map to SK town beach here.

When I did my research on the best beaches in Sri Lanka, many people recommended Unawatuna, Mirissa and Weligama beaches. No one mentioned SK town (at least in the blogs I read). So we rented a scooter on the second day to check those beaches out and boy, were these CROWDED. Beach chair everywhere with lots of restaurants, music playing and hundreds of people. There was also so. much. trash. (a big problem everywhere). We thought no way, our beach is so much better and we just stayed here.

The beach here is wild. It has both black sand and white sand, lots of palm trees and greenery and happy island dogs running around. You can rent a surfboard or buy a coconut on the beach. What we love about this area is that it’s never crowded, only the ones living in the area hang around the beach. The whole place has a paradise vibe, it’s very-chill-very-relaxed.

I feel like the more further you get from Colombo (and the airport) the better it gets. Near our SK town is another great beach called Talalla, so if you are ever in the area, then check this out.

Have you ever been to Sri Lanka? If so, what’s your favourite beach?
